Apple signs on as Australian marriage equality supporter

In an essay published in Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple CEO Tim Cook informed the public that he is “proud to be gay”.In the essay he explained that although privacy was important to him, he felt that being open and proud of his sexuality was his small part in helping others. “We pave the sunlit path toward justice together, brick by brick. This is my brick.” he concluded.

Tech giant Apple have publicly announced their support for legislating for marriage equality in Australia, adding to the long list of corporate advocates.

Apple’s infamous logo now features an open letter in favour of marriage equality alongside McDonald’s, Target, Virgin, AFL, Ben & Jerry’s and dozens more.

The company announced in a statement that Apple believes all people should be treated equally.

“That’s why we think all Australians should be able to marry the person they love,” the statement read.

Out CEO Tim Cook is a vocal supporter of LGBTIQ rights, turning up to San Francisco Pride with over 5000 employees earlier this year.

Support for the national plebiscite here in Australia has fallen as costs are projected to rise, as parties make the case for public funding for ‘yes’ and ‘no’ campaigns.

The future of the vote remains in doubt with the Senate results yet to be finalised and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten saying he would look into avoiding the costly vote altogether, which could mean the plebiscite becomes stranded in the Upper House after Parliament resumes on August 30.

  1. It just seems to me the coalition has gone to war with Gay Community because having a country vote on what our civil right’s should be.Without having it put to the public for a vote.

It is insulting demeaning and degrading of a large sector of the Australian people
